DB2 DBA

Description

 The DB2 Mainframe Database Administrator will be responsible for providing 24x7 production support of SunTrust applications, with an on-call rotation of approximately every 7-8 weeks.  This person must have the ability to design both logical and physical database structures; provide for data integrity through backup and recovery utilities; provide development support for application developers.

Qualifications

 IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE -

Minimum 4 years of in-depth Mainframe DB2 DBA experience; SQL experience, strong analytical, problem resolution and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and tasks; ability to work as part of a physical and virtual team; working knowledge of DB2 utilities and/or third party products preferred CA DB2 tools; ability to define and maintain the objects that make up a DB2 database; resolve referential and check constraint violations; load external sequential input data into DB2 tables; gather statistics about DB2 data; reorganize DB2 data ; unload DB2 data in external format; recover a damaged table space to current; compress data; bind a DB2 application program; control access to DB2 objects; be pc literate using Microsoft Suite of standard products; college degree preferred OR commensurate experience and possesses a broad range of production support skills; show initiative, be a self-starter, be able to handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision; prefer 3 years of DB2 DBA experience; basic knowledge of application system(s) supported by the DBMS Practice; awareness of upstream/downstream interfaces; solid knowledge of project phases and the deliverables of each; knowledge of Release methodology guidelines; knowledge of Change control methodology.

Successful at working with clients to understand the business needs and developing effective, scalable and maintainable database instances to meet the business requirements; industry leading knowledge of high volume complex DB2 distributed database environments; working knowledge of the physical data model design and DDL; working knowledge of high transaction volume large scale partitioned databases and data warehousing.

DB2 LUW

Description

As part of a DBA team, this position will be responsible for providing 24x7 production support of DB2 LUW databases/applications, designing both logical and physical database structures; ensuring data integrity through backup and recovery strategies; providing development support for application teams.  The ideal candidate would also have systems administration knowledge on Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems, and a very strong background in designing, optimizing, and supporting high volume transactional databases and large data warehouse environments. 

 

Specific tasks Include                                                                                    

- Provide DB2 LUW database design, development, and implementation

- Provide advice and recommendations on strategic project planning

- Design and maintain logical data models; develop and implement physical models (data type, indexing, table design, etc.)    

- Ensure adherence to Sun Trust corporate standards for Database Administration 

- Provide oversight of and recommendations on DB2 LUW leading practices

- Provide advice, recommendations and design decisions on: backup and recovery techniques; disaster recovery strategies; high availability configurations; maintenance plans; statistics gathering; monitoring techniques/scripts; data loading, extraction, and transformation techniques; DB2 LUW database capabilities and functionality that may be best utilized in SunTrust applications                                                                               

- Participate in on-site DBA implementation activities as needed                            

- Participate in capacity planning and sizing activities to define the appropriate hardware and software to meet requirements

- Provide short, adhoc educational sessions on topics related to DB2 LUW databases       

- Design and implement configuration and tuning improvements within the LUW environment     

Qualifications

 IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE -  

Minimum 4 years experience in managing DB2 distributed database environments; demonstrated advanced expertise in high volume large scale partitioned databases and data warehousing; IBM certification a strong plus; serves as a Subject Matter Expert for assigned databases; develop and implement data security guidelines while making data available to those authorized to have access; ensure the technical integrity of corporate databases by protecting against the loss or misuse of information and designing backup/recovery strategies; superior analytical skills, outstanding ability to trace problems back to origin and determine/document root cause; works independently with no supervision and very little guidance; exceptional listening and communication skills; determination to embrace and implement change for the benefit of the enterprise - has gained respect of and is relied upon by clients, peers, managers, project managers and executive management; an exceptional team player; provide database design, development, and implementation; database and application performance tuning.

System Programmer – Tech Services

Description

 This DB2 Systems Programmer will perform the following:

·         Plan, perform, implement, or coordinate specific projects in conjunction with LOBs and EIS management in support of the DB2 for z/OS environment and associated tools.

·         Work with EIS management to establish/adjust project priorities for DB2 for z/OS and associated tools.

·         Present formal reviews of projects or infrastructure issues/concerns with management as required with the DB2 for z/OS environment.

·         Estimate the systems resource allocation necessary to implement projects or efforts for DB2 Systems and associated tools.

·         Act as team leader for major technical efforts or enhancement projects with a DB2 component.

·         Plan and help control DB2 and DB2 Tools team activity.

·         Consult with management on project status.

·         MFS management will seek out the Systems Programmer Specialist as a resident expert on strategic and tactical project opportunities.

·         Possess the ability to work alone, with a team, or as a team leader.  

·         Responsible for directly or indirectly developing specific technical platforms and/or providing technical resources to support SunTrust EIS initiatives especially in relation to DB2 for z/OS.

·         Possess the ability to leverage expertise across concurrent multiple projects.

·         Translate, with team members, information requirements into system design and/or product specifications that ensure the efficient and effective use of computer resources.  

·         Perform system feasibility studies in conjunction with project requests, which identify the cost, benefit, timeline, etc. of various project options.

·         Perform, with team members, information analysis to define functional system requirements that adhere to architectural and business guidelines and policies.

·         Schedule the work assignments of project team members on specific projects or departmental efforts.

·         Facilitate/coordinate the various phases of a project across different areas to insure a successful implementation.  This should include the coordination of training efforts when appropriate.  

·         Monitor and report to EIS management the progress of assigned projects.

·         Ensure that all systems developed or enhanced conform to the EIS or ETI standards.

 

 

Responsible for installation and maintenance of systems, subsystems, and related products. Designs, develops, tests, debugs and implements components, software tools, and utilities with full competency. Coordinates with users to determine requirements. Reviews systems under development and related documentation. Makes modifications to existing software to fit specialized needs and configurations, and maintains program libraries and technical documentation. Coordinate activities of the project team and assist in monitoring project schedules and costs.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

•Software application implementation.  Will work with customers on the full range of payments software application implementation activities, including installation, configuration, testing (system performance, DR, user acceptance), troubleshooting, issue resolution, and certification with payments networks and core banking systems.  This will include database setup and tuning.

•Software application support.  Will work with customers to troubleshoot and resolve software application and database issues.

•Training.  Will provide informal DB2 training to customers and colleagues.

 

Experience:

•Requires a minimum of 5+ years of DB2 experience.

•Significant experience with large relational database management systems, preferably OLTP.

•Applied knowledge of open systems technologies and systems integration experience.

•Requires a proven ability to produce high levels of customer satisfaction in a consulting oriented position.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

•Must have the ability to use a logical, systematic approach to problem solving

•Must have the ability to anticipate the implications and consequences of situations and take appropriate action to prepare for possible contingencies

 

Computer Skills:
•Excellent relational database skills required, specifically DB2, MSSQL advantageous.  Including the ability analyze and write SQL scripts.

•Excellent operating systems skills required, preferably Windows and AIX.  Including the ability to write shell-type (e.g. Perl, Python) scripts.

•Able to read and understand object-orientated code (e.g. Java, C++).
